Bleeders

Symptoms

Light to heavy bleeding from nostrils, usually during or after exercise.

Cause

These include exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage, which is the most common, as well as infections of the guttural pouch, which can be life threatening, or a non-neoplastic growth called an ethmoid haematoma found at the back of the nose.

Treatment

This depends upon the cause which can be found at the relevant pages. Please consult a veterinary surgeon if this occurs with your horse.
