Corns

Symptoms

Severe lameness, bruising and pain in the sole.

Cause

Poor or delayed farriery work causing the hoof to over grow the shoe placing pressure onto sole especially in the heel region. The pressure causes bleeding and abscesses may form due to the entry of bacteria.

Treatment

A farrier will need to be called immediately to remove the shoes and trim the feet, removing any corns. Abscesses will need to be treated. To prevent this happening again a farrier needs to be called regularly so the hooves are kept in good condition.
