Epilepsy
Symptoms
Trembling of ears and tail, quivering, glazed look, may rear and fall with legs outstretched, followed by relaxation and a period of unconciousness
Cause
Unknown. Not very common in the horse, occurs more often in older ponys. Intercranial damage caused by conditions such as worm damage and infection can also cause seizures.
Treatment
An anticonvulsant may be prescribed which will control the convulsions that occur during a seizure, but there is no long term control which can be used to prevent the seizures.
