Ethmoid Haematoma

Symptoms

Small, irregular bleeding from one nostril, breathing may be noisy, together with bad breath.

Cause

An quick growing encapsulated mass grows at the back of the nostril chambers in the Ethmoid Turbinate. It is thought to start from a submucosal haemorrhage, although the exact cause is not known.

Treatment

A veterinary surgeon needs to be consulted who will need to perform surgery, although any interference causes gross haemorrhage. Smaller masses can be removed by laser surgery, although larger masses need an approach via a bone flap.
