Guttural Pouch Disease
Symptoms
Discharge from one or both nostrils, difficulty swallowing, a hard and painful swelling may occur in the angle of the jaw. Haemorrhage may occur which can be life-threatening.
Cause
Bacterial infection usually secondary to respiratory infection. Associated with a poor stable environment
Treatment
If caught in the early stages it can be treated with antibiotic irrigation. In chronic cases surgery will be needed to open the pouch and daily flushing will be needed. If the disease has reached a mycosis case it is usually too late for any treatment.
