Nettle Rash

Symptoms

Large areas of raised hair, skin hot and painful. Horse is unsteady on his feet, showing signs of acute pain by striking out with the limbs or throwing themselves on the ground.

Cause

Hypersensitive reaction to stinging nettles. More likely to occur in horses who are hot and wet.

Treatment

Symptoms usually fade after a few hours although depression can set in for a few days. Painkillers and anti-inflammatories may also be used although not usually necessary
