Nodular Skin Disease
Symptoms
Lumps form suddenly underneath the skin on the neck or along the back of the horse. Usually painless, and vary in size from a grain of rice to the size of a pea.
Cause
Possibly caused by an allergic reaction to migrating worms when killed after worming treatment, or to insect bites. Research is still being performed into the cause of the disease.
Treatment
Surgery can be used on individual lumps if they are causing a problem, such as when placing equipment on the horse, although the lumps will usually disappear on their own over time.
